On our drive we saw so many awesome things and it was really interesting to see the landscape change as we got closer to Palm Springs and further into the desert. Before we got to Palm Springs I knew we had to stop at a Cabazon dinosaurs. I's seen so many pictures of the World Biggest Dinosaur Museum and I love me a good dinosaur. Luckily the cool ones were outside, so we didn't go into the museum but we got some awesome pictures.
With only a day in Palm Springs we knew we wanted to head to Palm Springs Aerial Tramway before relaxing by the pool in the blistering heat. The ride up was awful. I'm afraid of heights and the tram spins so there is nothing to hold on to. With the windows open and being very high up and totally unprepared it was tearful ride up. But the views were beautiful. What was waiting at the top totally made up for it. Just look at these pictures to see what I mean.
Before leaving Palm Springs we drove by the famous pink door. If you have done any research into Palm Springs you'll know what i'm talking about.
Then we had brunch at Cheeky's. I'd read lots about this place and was intrigued by the flight of bacon. We got there earlyish so there wasn't much of a queue but it was still very busy. I had waffles and we shared the flight of bacon. Definitely worth a visit if you love a good brunch.
Ok well thats all for this blog. Catch up on my journey in the next one when I drive the Pacific Coastal Highway.
So back at the end of August I went on a trip to California and
literally had the best time of my life.
We went for 2 weeks starting in LA and ending in San Francisco. This is going to be a four part blog post breaking down where we went, what we did, what we ate etc etc. This first part will focus on our first four days in the LA area.
Some general information about our stay in LA. We stayed in a lovely Airbnb located in Sherman Oaks, which turned out to be the perfect location to get around to all the different places we wanted to visit. Daisy who we were staying with was very accommodating and in our little separate room we had privacy and were free to come and go as we please. We also had a hire car which we picked up from LAX airport and kept till we reach San Francisco. So what did we do?
Day 1
We had to wait around for our Airbnb to be ready do we checked out the local area hitting up Target, Wholefoods, Trader Joes and having breakfast and Denny's to really get ourselves accustomed to American life. We also picked up some donuts i had preordered from California Donuts for Charlie's birthday. Then once we had checked in we drove straight to the Huntington Beach area, which was magical from that moment i was ready not to come back. The whole area is beautiful, we then drove on to Laguna Beach before heading to the Anaheim Angels game where we indulged on the first of many hot dogs and garlic fries.
Day 2
We went to Disneyland! I was beyond excited before we got there so we arrived early and with the extended summer hours we left late. With the extra time we had, we went to both parks and didn't regret it because we had plenty of time for both. Disneyland truly is the happiest place on earth.
Starting the day at Grand Central Market for some Eggslut (OMG so good!) we explored DTLA. We geeked out over the spots from 500 Days of Summer and spent quite a while in The Last Bookstore and Amoeba Music. We ate so much food at Big Wangs. I think this was the day we found hardest to navigate because although we saw lots of the things we wanted there was a bit of driving around where not much was seen.
We quickly walked around the canals which were so peaceful and beautiful before making a super quick visit to the beach because we had to head back to get ready for the real highlight of the day.... TAYLOR SWIFT at the Staples Centre. It was magical, amazing everything you want from a Taylor Swift Concert and Charlie even got a favourited tweet from Taylor herself. Not jealous... We ended the night with a stop at a dodgy In and Out burger joint.
So that's it for part 1 of my California Adventure blogs. Next up we visit Palm Springs so check back because it was awesome!
Surprise , surprise it has been ages since I last put something on here! I have my excuses, you don't need to hear them but here we go again.
I'm going to ease myself back in with a post I actually meant to post shortly after I came back but that never happened. But back in February I went to Copenhagen for a few days and had a lovely time. At the moment Copenhagen seems to be very popular with anyone looking for a short break on the cheap. Looking at my instagram feed just last week there were at least for different people I follow visiting at the same time. Needless to say if you're looking for somewhere trendy to go, Copenhagen is the place of the moment.
So I thought I'd share a little guide to Copenhagen for anyone who might be visiting and looking for things to do or for anyone looking for some holiday inspiration.
Sleep
When i visited we stayed at the Copenhagen Crown just outside the city centre. I would definitely recommend it, it was ideally located about a 15 minute walk from the centre and 5/10 min walk from the station. The rooms were small but had everything you need. It was also right next to a fabric shop, Strof 2000 and fantastic hot dog place, which I will get to in a moment.
If you're looking for somewhere to give you more of a local feel I know that airbnb is a great place to find cool rooms at very good prices.
Eat
Eating and drinking in Copenhagen is expensive so bear that in mind when you book your cheap flight. However that being said we ate some really good food while there, ok we didn't eat local delicacies but regardless it was worth the sacrifice.
Foderbraettet
The best food we ate was here. Located right next to our hotel it was perfect and what they serve are like bar snack size hot dogs. The hot dogs are all different and topped with lots of interesting toppings. My favourite was a fish hot dog with a kimchi topping, yum! Although this isn't on their menu anymore because I think they change some of it based on what's in season? It gets really busy at the weekends because it also serves really good cocktails. We had to sit up at the bar which wasn't a bad thing because another thing to mention about this place is that the staff are all gorgeous and basically look like models.
Other places to note are Neighbourhood, which sold really good pizza but again super busy, and Cocks and Cows a kind of pricey burger place.
Visit
Copenhagen has lots of things to do! When we went it was cold raining and even snowing, which was fine but it would have been nicer in the summer. Also, because we went out of season places like Tivoli Gardens were closed so thats also something to bear in mind.
The Round Tower
Mainly to get out of the rain we went up The Round Tower, but I really enjoyed it. It's really cheap and it gives you a beautifully view of the city from the top. The spiral ramp leading to the top gives you some great arty pictures and is also a great workout.
The Design Museum
Another good place to get out of the rain and free if you're under 26. I don't know if I would recommend this if I had to pay, only because there wasn't a lot to do. But that said we did really enjoy making stop motion animation as part of the Century of the Child exhibition.
Christiana
The Little Mermaid
So that was a my brief guide to Copenhagen, so if you're looking for a long weekend getaway definitely get booking your flight because it is beautiful. Just try not to go in February when it is raining and cold because all that beauty looks a little more grey.
I'm off to California next week so i'm hoping to do a post when i get back based on my visit and I'm also hoping to cram in a few more post before I go!

Christiana
A free town with an acceptance of drugs. Had some cool graffiti but not really my thing plus the weather was miserable when we went.
Nyhaven
Admit it, if you know anyone that's been to Copenhagen you have seen these houses. Again the day went it was miserable and there was even some snow but they are hella pretty and will look great on your instagram feed.
The Little Mermaid
Another keenly visited and photographed site is the Little Mermaid by Edvard Eriksen. I don't need to say more it's kind of a must see.

Hi there! I am back, i've not disappeared and i've been sewing. Hooray! It's about time! My work life has been so busy there hasn't been a spare moment but thankfully it is half term so before I jet off to Copenhagen tomorrow I have had free time to be a busy sewing bee.
The latest project is the Hawthorne dress by Colette patterns. For this I used a lovely maroon fabric that i bought at John Lewis.using a Christmas voucher, it was in the sale and was an absolute steal at only £4 a metre. The pattern was another voucher buy this time from Liberty using a loyalty voucher I had. The pattern was originally £18 but with £10 off it only set me back £8.
The pattern itself was relatively simple and the clear instructions made it simpler. I managed to finish this dress in about 2 days. I opted for a short sleeve version and have shortened the hem slightly as with the busy fabric I felt it looked a bit mumsy at the suggested length.
The dress is all packed in my bag for Copenhagen so hopefully I can show you what it looks like on in an upcoming Copenhagen post. In the meantime check out my spring/summer fabric pile. What should I sew next? Let me know what you think below.

So we are already 11 days into the new year and I told
myself I would start the year by actually getting back into blogging and get
this new blog off to start. As always life and work get in the way and it
didn’t get running as early into the new year as I had first hoped.
|
But here I am and here is my new blog, Dominique Does.
New Years Resolutions
Most people start the year with new years resolutions so I
thought as this is new it might be good to set some new years resolutions for my
blog and add a little bit of insight into what to expect.
To make this blog a year of adventure. I hope to continue to
travel this year and visit new and exciting places. I hope to be able to
document this on my blog . But I plan to make this year a year of creative
adventure. Last year my new year’s resolution was to be more crafty, and I
fulfilled that goal but I don’t want it to stop there. This year I plan to
further expand myself creatively. I plan to get better and my sewing. Learn new
crafts such as screen printing, embroidery, calligraphy and who knows what
else! But I want to share this adventure on this blog.
So what to expect from this blog? Expect to see what is sewing desk, finished
projects, new skills learnt, crafty ideas, travel, food and everything else
that consumes my life out of work.
So I hope you’ll be back to see what I have to offer.
